Output

FDTD++ provides two types of output, simulation output and user output. The former type is generated automatically, in order to provide logging and error reports, and the latter is output desired by the user, such as electromagnetic fields, spectra, etc.

Simulation output

Simulation output is generated automatically by FDTD++, for every simulation. Often

There are three streams of simulation output:

  • FDTDxx.log: The log file. This file logs details of a given simulation. As this file reports both the materials and parameters set in a simulation, it is often good practice to check this file for consistency.
  • FDTDxx.err: The error file. This file logs both errors and warnings. In the case of a simulation crash, this file should be consulted.
  • Console: Output directed toward the user. This rarely (never?) occurs in FDTD++.

User output

User output is that desired by the user, specified in the parameters file. There are three main types of output, fields, cross sections, and transmission spectra.

If there are additional types of output that you would like to see in FDTD++, please add a thread to the discussion forums.
